Fitness and Nutrition For KidsA Healthy Way to Grow
Good fitness and nutrition for kids ensures that they'll grow up to be healthy adults.
Does your child spend more time in front of the TV than they do outside? Is sugary cereal their favorite food?
Be warned! An inactive lifestyle and too much junk food can lead to obesity and other health related problems. Luckily, there's a way for you to help them!
Nutrition for Kids
Fitness and nutrition for kids is simple. Just follow these tips:
- Breakfast is a must! Skipping breakfast can cause loss of concentration and lethargy in children.
- Mix it up. Include a variety of grains, fruits, vegetables, and dairy items into their diets.
- Try baking or roasting instead of cooking food in heavy oils and grease.
- Snacks that contain reduced sugar are always best. Kids are sweet enough.
Exercise for Kids
Exercise is an essential part of fitness and nutrition for youngsters. Some things to keep in mind while designing an exercise program:
- Children should get at least 60 minutes of physical activity each day.
- Activities such as sports, bicycling, jumping rope, dancing and walking provide excellent exercise.
- Instead of allowing them to sit in front of the TV or computer, encourage children to play.
- Involving kids in household activities like washing cars, mowing the lawn, and painting provide wonderful exercise. (Not to mention, it's a great way to delegate some of your chores!)
- Get active, parents! Include yourself in your children's fitness routine, and they'll be much more likely to succeed.
How to Encourage Healthy Habits
It might become difficult for you to personally supervise the routine of your kids, so go ahead and encourage your child to develop positive habits early. This way, they do not need constant parental supervision in order to stay healthy.
Ways to develop healthy habits:
- Set a good example for your child by exercising regularly and eating well-balanced meals.
- Join children in sports and other fitness activities. Apart from ensuring good health, these activities also forge a bond between child and parent.
- Check to make sure that the child’s school has proper fitness and nutrition programs in place. Kids should eat healthy, even when away from home.
Start now! Don't wait to start your child on the path to a healthy life.
